What time does Game of Thrones season 6 start? Dates, cast, characters, trailers and everything we know so far. Jon Snow may be dead, well at least for now, but there is so much more to the Sky Atlantic series.

The wait is over and Game of Thrones season 6 is basically here.

'Winter is coming' but instead of chilling the excitement levels, the anticipation for the sixth instalment of the HBO/Sky Atlantic series is actually heating up.

For those still talking about Jon Snow's mortality , it's time to focus on the other characters, new cast members and thrilling storylines that await - especially as outcast Cersei Lannister has promised violent revenge .

While Lena Headey's character is desperate to get the Seven Kingdoms back under her reign, other's like Maisie Williams' Arya Stark would simply love to see again, after it was revealed her character will be blind in season 6.

The first trailer

The first trailer of the series landed at the start of March.

The teaser confirmed that Kit Harington's Snow was actually dead as it began with him lying on the ground after being betrayed by the Night's Watch.

"We're the only ones who matter and everything they've taken from us we're going to take back and more," says a frantic looking Jaime Lannister, as the Kingslayer stares lovingly into his sister's eyes.

360 intro

Game of Thrones viewers will be pleased to know that ahead of season six fans have been treated to a 360 virtual reality look at the title sequence.

Sneaky fans on Twitter has also pointed out that it allows a sneaky view up the Titan of Braavos’ skirt.

The above virtual reality genius is the result of a team-up between HBO, Facebook, Oculus and the show's intro designers, Elastic.

When is Game of Thrones season six back on?

The much-loved returns tonight on HBO in the US and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic at 2am UK time.

It will also air on Monday April 25 at 9pm on Sky Atlantic .

Is Jon Snow actually dead?

Although the first trailer for season six showed Jon lying in the (forgive the pun) Snow, and even Kit Harington's co-stars confirming the Leader of the Night's Watch was dead, fans still have a feeling the Westeros legend is ALIVE - and even riding horse in one of the trailers.

If Jon does come back from beyond the grave it will take something pretty special.

The dead are coming

There’s a war coming, according to Davos.

“The real war is between the living and the dead. And make no mistake, the dead are coming,” he warns.

Fleeting between the many storylines, the new latest trailer - see the top of the story - shows Jamie challenging The High Sparrow, who had previously incarcerated his beloved sister Cersei before making her walk naked through the town.

“You would spill blood in this holy place?” he’s asked.

So who IS dead?

Game of Thrones showrunners have officially confirmed a much-loved character Syrio Forel, played by ​Miltos Yerolemou​, is dead.

Syrio taught Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark how to use a sword, before eventually getting the young Stark to be deadly with her very own weapon, ‘Needle’.

When talking about the character Williams, revealed to IGN that he still ‘feels’ alive.

She said: "I always was like, 'Oh, no, I feel like he's still alive'.

"I always had my own theory that he and Jaqen were the same person."

Despite her brilliant theory, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have shutdown the idea, telling the actress: "No, he is dead."

After having her ‘dream’ crushed, she continued: "I was like, 'Oh, OK.' So that put that to bed really quickly, but I guess we can all still dream.

"Maybe if it's not in the show, it will be in the book, and that will be great.”

New cast

It was confirmed in August that Ian McShane would appear in Season 6.
